What is Lampwork? Lampworking is an form of glasswork which uses a torch to melt rods of glass. The melted glass is manipulated and formed with tools and hand movements to create objects such as jewelry, figurines, paperweights, etc. Lampwork is also used to create scientific instruments, often for chemistry work. Other names for lampworking include flameworking or torchwork.

Lampwork derives its name from the ancient practice of melting glass in the flame of an oil lamp with air blown through a tube. Today most artists use a propane or natural gas torch with oxygen from bottles or a concentrator. Modern fuels combined with a higher concentration of oxygen have enabled more advanced techniques and have allowed artists to take the art form to new levels.

Historically lampworking has been very much a cottage industry with individual artists working from their homes doing piecework. Today lampworking is still true to its roots with thousands of artists working in small studios, often in their homes, creating beautiful pieces of artwork.

Hi! My name is Terri Carol, I live in beautiful Half Moon Bay, California. Hence the business name Half Moon Beads, a little play of words on where I am from.

I fell in love with making jewelry in 2001, when my sister-in-law encouraged me to give it a try, I took to it like a fish to water. I read as many books and magazines as I could get my hands on and I began making items for myself. Soon the ladies at work were asking where I got my jewelry. When I told them I made it, I started getting requests to make jewelry for them.

In 2005, I took my first lampworking class and I started incorporating lampwork beads into my designs. Soon I became intrigued with glass and now I'm hooked. I love glass of all shapes, colors and forms. I have joined various lampworking groups and learned from other members. I then practiced, practiced and practiced some more.

In 2007, I took classes in glass fusing from Bea Sharp of B Sharp Accessories I am now offering fused glass pendants and earrings in my collection.

I am a member of Northern California Chapter of the Society of Glass Beadmakers (SGB NorCal), International Society of Glass Beadmakers (ISGB), Self-Represnting Artist Member #C73 (SRA), and Self-Representing Artist Jewelry Designer Member # 0448 (SRAJD)

Nothing thrills me more than to hear from my customers who come back months or years later to tell me of the many compliments they receive on the items they have purchased from me.
